Team Ropes for Headers and Heelers
Every Precision team rope comes in two lengths: a 31 ft head rope and a 35 ft heel rope. You choose the model, then the position and the lay when you order.
The line includes four strand and six strand ropes. Neither construction is better on its own. They feel different in the hand, and the right one is the rope you catch with consistently.

What sets them apart
Header
Head ropes are 31 ft and are offered in the softer lays, XXS through MS. A softer lay lets the loop open and lay over the horns with less effort.
Heeler
Heel ropes are 35 ft and are offered in MS, M and, on the four strand models, HM. The extra length gives room to set the trap and dally, and a firmer lay helps the loop hold its shape under the feet.
Four strand
Patriota 4, Combat 4, Amazon 4 and Finish Him 4. Amazon 4 and Finish Him 4 are built with a core. Combat 4 is the only 100% nylon rope in the line.
Six strand
Six Seals 6 and Amazon 6 use six smaller strands. Heel versions go up to M lay; HM is not offered on the six strand models.
How to choose
- Start with your position: head (31 ft) or heel (35 ft).
- Pick a lay inside the range for that position. If you are between two lays, the one you already rope with is the safer reference.
- Compare each model's rope feel, such as heavier body or a smaller, quicker response.
- Check material and diameter on the product page before ordering.

Frequently asked questions
Is a six strand rope better than a four strand rope?
Not by default. Six strand ropes use more, smaller strands and many ropers notice a different feel. Try the construction that suits your swing and your horse.
Why are heel ropes longer?
The heeler needs extra rope to rope both hind feet and still have enough to dally. That is why every Precision heel rope is 35 ft and every head rope is 31 ft.
Which lay should a header choose?
Head ropes are offered from XXS to MS. Softer lays are common for heading, but the right lay depends on your hand, your horse and the weather.
